Enjoying spectacular countryside views, these three properties are careful restorations of a splendid 18th-century, listed farmhouse and nearby barn. Slade House itself is a former yeoman's abode dating back to the 1640s. They feature quality furnishings, and each has its own garden set in 7acres of farmland grounds; an idyllically peaceful location on the edge of the National Park. Excellent country walks can be enjoyed amid the surrounding Staffordshire countryside, with many footpaths leading straight from the door. Alternatively why not hop on your bicycle and take a leisurely ride along the leafy country lanes; an excellent way to spot the local flora and fauna and admire the breathtaking views. Cycle routes can also be explored along the Manifold, Tissington and High Peak trails, a series of waymarked footpaths which follow the course of disused railway tracks. Places of interest not to be missed when touring out and about include the great country houses of Chatsworth and Haddon, the bustling market towns of Leek, Bakewell and Matlock Bath, with its cable cars scaling the Heights of Abraham, the vast recreational lake of Carsington Water (where sailing, canoeing, fishing, and bird-watching opportunities abound), the heritage sites of Wirksworth, and the delightful spa town of Buxton with its fine opera house, which plays host to the famous Gilbert and Sullivan Festival during the summer months. For a truly peaceful day out, there is some wonderful walking to be found amid the gentle valleys of Dove Dale, while for a fun family day out, Alton Towers is within easy reach. Those seeking an altogether different outdoor experience can make their way to The Roaches, an area famed throughout the land for its excellent rock climbing. Ashbourne `Gateway to the Derbyshire Dales' offers a selection of antique shops and restaurants, a regular market day and a gingerbread shop where delicacies are made to a recipe allegedly passed on by Napoleanic prisoners of war. Many other charming country pubs and stores can be found locally, amid a scattering of classic grey-stone villages.
This carefully converted wing of the main farmhouse, with its own courtyard and cobbled patio and delightful beamed interior, still features the original decorated farmhouse range in its kitchen. Furnished and equipped to the Visit Britain `4Star' standard. Entrance from south-facing courtyard to fully fitted kitchen/dining area with quarry-tiled floor, split-level oven and hob. Cloakroom with shower cubicle. Double bedroom (5ft bed) with en-suite bathroom/W.C. and shower attachment. First floor: Large, beamed sitting-room (former cheese room) with wood-burning stove and exposed brick chimney breast. Cosy twin-bedded room with en-suite W.C.
